Many parts of India are suffering from severe drought and for 7 long years there was no sufficient rainfall, especially in the Pali district of Rajasthan. In the last 15 continuous months they had no rain at all! Due to this there is an extreme shortage of drinking water, particularly in the rural areas and small villages, where both people and animals have nothing to drink.

This award is in recognition of Prof. Maheshwarananda’s lasting achievements in developing ecological awareness, peace and tolerance between cultures, nations and religions of the world.
South-african newspaper reports about Swamiji's visit to professor Fatima Meer who is recovering from an illness at her Durban home. Swamiji was due to share a platform with professor Meer at a conference on world peace, at the recent UN Summit on Sustainable Development.
